A fabulous yellow gold plated South African (with a Springbok) pendant – 40mm (1.6inches) which includes a 50cm chain.
So many South Africans around the world are incredibly proud to be rugby supporters. When the Springboks run out onto the pitch, pubs across the planet fill up with passionate South Africans in their ‘green and gold’, flags fly from windows and South African bunting is draped across gardens.
The Springbok has been the symbol of South African rugby since 1906. It remained so through the apartheid era, and thus was seen as a symbol of the system. The Springbok, to some, represented apartheid. The negativity around the Springbok was a delicate matter, which Nelson Mandela realised and he sought to tackle it head on.
“Know your enemy and learn about his favourite sport” Nelson Mandela famously said. This South African pendant is a reminder of the great man. He understood South Africa and her people and his impact on this popular South African game was immense.
Wear this pendant with pride to show how much you love our Springboks!

Mandy Whyman is one of our favourite South African poets, and this piece she wrote specifically for this pendant:
“My Africa’s soul leaps wild under a vast sky: Beating. Breathing. Life”
