African legends are part of the fabric of the continent. Each generation shared the stories and legends their forefathers shared with them, with the new young in the community. Around the fire, legends were spoken or sung – but today we have the priviledge of ‘hearing’ them in the written form.
These African legends tell of life, community and lessons we can learn from those who have gone before. The bring colour to explanations of how things came to be, why and how things, animals and people were named. These legends also explain natural phenomena and give meaning to situations and events out of our control.
