My love for sewing all started as a hobby. I enjoy sewing and making homemade gifts for the special people in my life. It wasn’t originally just African themed, that is something that has come about since living in the UK.
I have always worked in banking, investment and foreign exchange since leaving school and wanted to start sewing again. And when I resigned from a very stressful day job to become a full-time mom, I needed to find something that could keep me busy. As I love everything African I started making things only using African prints and before I knew it people wanted what I was making. Things have just started to grow from there.
Inspired by Africa, Made in UK is the name of my business and this name came from my love for everything African, and the fact that I now live in UK.
At the moment it’s just me in the business, but my husband supports me here in the UK and my mom supports me from South Africa, as she sources and sends me my material.
I am originally from the very hot & humid east coast town of Richards Bay and have lived here in the UK now for a very, very long 14 years. I am so proud to be South African and mainly because of the way South Africans always step up to support each other through good times and bad.
